In 2002 Dayna Ducham started baking Pound Cakes with a secret family recipe. She baked for her family, friends and although her daughter Aliya didn't like cake, she became her biggest fan. The comments from tasters were always the same, ranging from "Oh My God, this is delicious" to "You should sell these cakes so everyone can enjoy them." Dayna would just smile and say, "Thank you, glad you liked it." But secretly she had dreamed about starting her own business and sharing her cakes, but the timing never felt right. .
But in October of 2014 fate stepped in. While having lunch at the beach with a friend, Dayna was introduced to the VP of Operations of a family owned bakery business with a history of success. He told the story of how his family's company started over 30 years ago with requests for his grandmother's cookies. Dayna shared her dreams of having her own bakery business and her reluctance to take the risk. Her new friend's response was: "What are you waiting for, you should send me the cake and I'll give you my honest opinion."
After much soul searching Dayna got the courage to send her Pound Cake to Chelsea, Massachusetts. The text message from the VP was a picture of the cake on his boardroom table with the caption: "In a marketing meeting, my minions love it." He later added, "well it's certainly delicious, I think you should think of starting a little business. So with that vote of confidence and the encouragement from her daughter, Dayna decided it was time to launch Dayna's Bake Shop.
Dayna's not just baking cakes, now she's dreaming of one day becoming a household name. If you ask Dayna for the secret recipe she will only divulge one ingredient: LOVE
